Fishing Safety Tips

Fishing is one of the biggest pastimes in Darwin and the Northern Territory. Below are some tips that are recommended to follow while planning your fishing holiday:

  • Tell a friend or family member where you are going and when you plan on returning
  • Bring plenty of water, fuel, first aid kit, spare parts and tools in case of an emergency
  • If something goes wrong, always stay with your boat or vehicle
  • If traveling off road, ensure your vehicle is equipped to do so and you have the necessary equipment if needed
  • Always carry lifejackets, a satellite phone and enough food and water for those on board
  • Clean your fish away from the boat ramps and away from the camp
  • Always check tide charts before you go out
  • Be cautious of crocodiles and jellyfish
